  • Standard Duration: Maternity leave typically lasts for 28 weeks.
  • Extended Duration: If a mother gives birth to more than one child (e.g. twins), the leave is extended to 37 weeks.
  • Start of leave: Maternity leave can begin 6 to 8 weeks before the expected date of childbirth.
